We Fly with Our Kites
The images included in this project are associated with poems that I have written.  I call the combination of the images and poems Visual Verse.  The poems are not included with the selected images, but are part of the subject matter of an iBook “We Fly With Our Kites” authored by Michael Zimring.  Visual Verse goes beyond digital art, per se.  It’s about feelings triggered by some of the photos I capture with my camera, the sometimes-abstract mental images they engender, and their link to a poetic expression.
This idea of images linked to a poetic expression is not new:
“The ethos of photography…seems closer to that of modernist poetry than that of painting.  As painting has become more and more conceptual, poetry … has more and more defined itself as concerned with the visual.”  Susan Sontag, On Photography
“… photographs can do something that may be even more valuable.  They can mediate a poetic response to the world, a response that acknowledges the real beyond mere instrumentality.”  Lyle Rexer, THE EDGE OF VISION.
